FRIED CABBAGE WITH BACON, ONION, AND GARLIC RECIPE
Ingredients:
- 1 medium head green cabbage, chopped
- 6 slices bacon, diced
- 1 medium onion, sliced (yellow or white onion works well)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt (to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional, for tang)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil (if needed)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Ingredients:
- Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces, slice the onion, and mince the garlic. Set aside.
- Cook the Bacon:
- In a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat, add the diced bacon. Cook until crispy, about 5-7 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to remove the bacon and drain on paper towels, leaving the bacon grease in the skillet.
- Sauté the Onions:
- In the same skillet with the bacon grease, add the sliced onion. Sauté for about 3-5 minutes, until the onions are translucent and starting to caramelize.
- Add the Garlic and Cabbage:
- Add the minced garlic to the onions and sauté for an additional 1 minute, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
- Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, stirring to combine with the onion and garlic. Season with salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
- Add the Bacon:
- Once the cabbage is cooked to your liking, stir in the reserved cooked bacon. If desired, drizzle with apple cider vinegar for added flavor and toss to combine.
- Serve:
- Remove from heat and serve warm. This dish makes a great side to roasted meats, grilled chicken, or as part of a hearty vegetarian meal.
