St Giles Marriage ceremony, Dorset | Excessive Finish Trend Impressed

Josie and Ferg tied the knot on tenth February 2024 on the magnificent St Giles in Wimborne, Dorset.

This inventive couple sought a marriage with a brilliant cool, glamorous, vogue editorial aesthetic. Their stylist, Nikki of The Toast, together with their proficient photographer Marta Ilardo and their venue’s Brilliant Younger Issues-inspired home occasion environment, seamlessly collaborated to ship the effortlessly cool marriage ceremony they envisioned.

Fiercely impartial, Josie selected to stroll down the aisle herself in a shocking, fitted robe, by Justin Alexander, which she found at Brides of Southampton boutique. Take pleasure in!

Venue & Location

Initially we had booked one other venue in Southampton however they pulled out all of the sudden with solely six months to go. St Giles had been wonderful and promised to select us up from our panic puddle on the ground, and so they weren’t mendacity – they had been completely unbelievable, surpassing something we’d have had on the unique venue.

Even higher, I went to high school in Wimborne and grew up within the space so it was pretty to search out someplace that linked to us personally.

Whereas at college, I studied a number of artwork historical past and used a number of renaissance oil work as references in my very own inventive work. I fell in love with the nonetheless lives and chiaroscuro lighting in Caravaggio and Rembrandt’s work. The distinction of sunshine and darkish with heat colors and a lovely freedom of form and tone. It’s so basic and romantic. I couldn’t imagine the gorgeous decor and tapestries on the venue, it was heavenly.

As a photographer, I’ve spent the final 15 years producing photoshoots within the vogue trade and while it appears superficial to say it, it was actually necessary to us that the entire day felt like a high-end, stylised editorial piece, curated for a vogue journal. We had a extremely clear visible identification and spent a number of time becoming all of it collectively in order that it felt just a little totally different – and extra moody than a ‘white marriage ceremony’.

Bridal Magnificence & Equipment

I wore a veil embellished with tiny crystals that caught the candlelight. I’m uncertain of the designer, however Brides of Southampton sorted me out.

My footwear had been an orange velvet court docket footwear, customized made by JustLeatherGR. My fragrance was Kenzo World. I don’t suppose they make the one I’ve anymore although. I like it as a result of it’s not too candy.

I wore my Mom-In-Legislation’s locket that held a photograph of Ferg’s grandparents. After I met Grampy, he held my hand and advised Fergus to ‘take care of this one’. Sadly he handed initially of the pandemic however it’s going to at all times imply the world. I additionally wore my maternal grandmother’s marriage ceremony ring.

It’s very on model for me to have a crown. Mine was an unbelievable discover on Amazon.

The Gown

My costume was Grove by Justin Alexander from Brides of Southampton. They had been wonderful. With the change in venue, I freaked out concerning the costume I’d purchased. They had been so pretty and let me weep and check out a thousand different clothes on till I discovered the one. Completely I’d suggest.

I’ve been mentally planning my marriage ceremony since I used to be three years outdated and at all times wished to really feel like a princess. Having tried on the ball robes, I assumed they sat actually weirdly on me and made me look cumbersome, so I went with one thing reverse.

I initially had a really fitted/draped costume that was very greek-goddess to slot in our initially venue, which was very marble-pillars. I really feel like I had my eyes opened when the venue modified and I assumed what the hell am I doing? This isn’t very me in any respect, and while I do know {that a} costume doesn’t have to suit a venue, I might have felt so misplaced and uncomfortable.

We went to a good friend’s marriage ceremony in the summertime earlier than our marriage ceremony and I cried the entire time over how stunning the bride seemed. I knew I wouldn’t really feel like that in my unique costume. I wished a skirt I might swish about in.

I ended up going for a lovely A-line skirt with a Vivienne Westwood-esque corset. I’ve a masters diploma in vogue and I nearly died once I noticed it. I didn’t simply really feel like a princess, I felt like a queen

Quite a lot of our selections had been primarily based on texture and tone. Each of our outfits caught the sunshine actually superbly.

Ferg’s go well with was a mixture of items from Xposed London and Moss Bros, and it was tailor-made by Cavendish Ramsey. Ferg’s color is inexperienced. He wears it on a regular basis and it matches his eyes so superbly. Having a winter marriage ceremony, impressed by work, it  merely needed to be velvet! What a lovely texture.

Once we first received engaged, lots of people would ask who was going to take our images, (typically earlier than congratulations!) Having been a photographer for a very long time, the images had been extremely necessary to me! When Fergus and I first began going out, I warned him that if we ever received married, many of the finances would go on image-makers.

I spent hours researching and trawling Instagram. I interviewed three photographers. Marta Ilardo was by far the most effective. She additionally comes from a superb artwork background and works in the same strategy to me.

Her works is a lot greater than merely ‘marriage ceremony images’, she has such type and allure. Her images are like vogue editorials – they actually seize a sense, not only a second. She’s wonderful. We love Marta!

We weren’t going to have a videographer, as we had been stretching out finances just a little with our venue change, however Fergus met up with a good friend who had simply received married a number of months prior and she or he stated her greatest remorse was not having a videographer. Imagery is so necessary to us. I requested Marta who she might suggest and fell in love with Agne Harris.

How They Met

Fergus and I met at a gig neither of us was presupposed to be at. I -famously- have a powerful dislike for reside music however I additionally felt I couldn’t say no AGAIN to a good friend’s invitation to see his band. I received very drunk, and the good friend I’d additionally dragged alongside took my cellphone, and determined to ask everybody -everyone- I had matched with on Tinder.

Of everybody she invited, Fergus was the one one who bothered to indicate up. He’d simply moved into his flat and was sat alone surrounded by containers with nothing to do. However boy did he present up. His opening gambit was to inform me he saved dolphins for a dwelling (technically true!) Mine was to inform him I’m so much. So he can’t say that he didn’t know what he was stepping into!

Our engagement story is cute. I used to be whisked away for a birthday weekend in Dartmoor. I had a really sturdy suspicion spent the entire automotive journey teasing him and telling him to not overlook to convey the ring.

A fully magical 5am stroll to observe the solar rise over fields so thick with frost like one thing straight out of a film and he didn’t ask, so I assumed he wouldn’t be proposing that weekend.

We purchased locals cheeses and wine, visited a craft honest the place they roasted chestnuts and had mulled cider. An ideal pleased day. Once we received again, I went to bathe while he set an open fireplace.

Naturally, he chooses the second I’m sporting trackies, ripped T-shirt and moist hair to ask me an important query of our lives, sneakily establishing a digicam to report our cute little fire-lit picnic.

Seems he had introduced the ring. And what a lovely ring it’s.

We’d already purchased our marriage ceremony rings earlier than he even proposed. Once we first began going out, lower than six months in, he purchased me a beautiful necklace from a stunning impartial jeweller in London. We popped into the store and fell in love with these stunning organic-looking rings and I joked that after we received married we’d have them as our marriage ceremony bands.

Through the pandemic, the store closed down. We had been devastated, till she posted on Instagram that she was nonetheless making a few items from her house studio. One of many few issues she was nonetheless making had been our rings! We purchased them instantly earlier than she had an opportunity to shut her doorways once more! That was two months earlier than Ferg proposed.

The Reception

We collaborated with marriage ceremony stylist Nikki at The Toast. She was unbelievable.

We didn’t have conventional flowers, selecting as a substitute to go along with potted crops and particular person blooms, supplementing our centrepieces with actual fruit, our company might have with dessert. Nikki, our stylist sourced these for us.

It was an ideal day. The one factor I remorse was not taking any of our meals house with us. I didn’t get to every a lot and it was phenomenal so I’m actually gutted.

What a catering journey we had. At our unique venue, we booked the wonderful Vegan Magda – sheer perfection. We by no means dreamt we might discover anyone so fantastic.

What luck and pure destiny that had simply added aware cook dinner, Sarah Quincey to their books – working very carefully with Magda to create such luxurious vegan dishes.

Even higher, Magda was supporting Sarah on the day itself, so we received to share everybody’s meals in equal measure. I cried once I heard we’d be working with each of them. What goals, and what a incredible crew. We couldn’t have been luckier. A large shoutout and infinite thanks!

Each dish hand-crafted with love and experience, and all the pieces was vegan, regardless of last-minute allergy nightmares. Every part was melt-in-the-mouth and my greatest remorse of the entire day was that I forgot to ask to take any house. I’ll remorse it for the remainder of my life!

I designed all of our stationery myself. We felt it was necessary to maintain all the pieces private and quintessentially ‘us’. All paper was recycled and we saved the printing to a minimal.

My mum has been a cake maker for over 20 years. I’m not being biased once I say she makes the most effective muffins I’ve ever tasted. Plus, I believe she’d kill me if she didn’t make the cake! We went with a lemon cake with lemon curd and buttercream.

Since our type was all about texture, we saved the cake semi-naked and embellished it with the identical fruits and flowers that had been on the tables. We discovered a quite simple wire cake topper on Etsy that matched our stationary. It was quite simple and pared again. It seemed stunning and tasted even higher.

Night & Dancing

Gemma Edwards was our unbelievable DJ. We had been so obscure with our transient: “We’d like Janelle Monae’s ‘Make Me Really feel’ to start out, and Rina Sawayama’s ‘Chosen Household’ to complete. We went to uni between 2013 and 2017, in order that’s type of our period however we’ve some oldies in attendance too. I like drum and bass and Ferg likes rock. Just one ABBA music allowed and no Elton John, please! The remaining is solely as much as you – go nuts!”

And go nuts she did! What an immaculate playlist from begin to end.

Vibes had been popping. I received a few musical theatre moments for my highlight second, and the drum and bass remixes had been fireplace. There have been nonetheless a strong 20 folks popping off the dance ground at gone 1am, and it was due to her we had the most effective second of my life surrounded by a lot love and happiness.

The enormity of the day didn’t hit me till our final dance of the night time, with 20 of our nearest and dearest encircling us to the music Chosen Household by Rina Sawayama. I’m amazed my knees didn’t give out, I used to be shuddering and gasping for breath as we sang the phrases to one another and our fantastic associates screamed “crew” and rushed in for an enormous group hug. I’ve by no means identified a love like that. I hope I always remember that feeling.

Phrases of Wedded Knowledge

I want we’d made a joint e-mail account earlier than planning something. Fergus and I had been an actual crew and had a really equal half in planning and organising our day. Quite a lot of emails ended up going to me immediately and received confused whereas forwarding to Ferg. It labored out, after all, and it wasn’t a enormous challenge, however it will’ve been extra easy for certain.

Don’t overlook to take some meals house!!!

Don’t do something simply since you should. We had been very steadfast in what we wished and didn’t get swayed to ask folks we weren’t fussed by, or have sure decor as a result of any individual favored a sure kind of flower. Our greatest remark was “all the pieces concerning the day was so quintessentially ‘you’” And that’s what we actually strived for.
