Easy Cruffins: The Perfect Blend of Croissant and Muffin
Ingredients for Easy Cruffins
- 1 package of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional, for a cinnamon-sugar twist)
- 1/2 cup fruit preserves (such as raspberry, strawberry, or apricot) or chocolate spread
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)
How to Make Easy Cruffins
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
- Prepare the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and grease a standard muffin tin.
Step 2: Prepare the Puff Pastry
- Roll Out the Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Brush with Butter: Brush the entire surface of the pastry with melted butter.
Step 3: Add Sugar and Cinnamon
- Sprinkle Sugar: In a small bowl, mix the sugar and cinnamon. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered pastry.
Step 4: Add Filling
- Spread Filling: Spread your chosen fruit preserves or chocolate spread evenly over the sugared pastry.
Step 5: Shape the Cruffins
- Fold and Roll: Starting from one long edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log. Once rolled, cut the log into 6 equal pieces.
- Shape into Cruffins: Take each piece and place it into the greased muffin tin, standing upright with the cut side facing up. Gently flatten the top of each cruffin to create a slight dome shape.
Step 6: Bake
- Egg Wash: Brush the tops of the cruffins with the beaten egg for a golden finish.
- Bake: Place the muffin tin in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and puffed.
Step 7: Cool and Serve
- Cool: Once baked, remove the cruffins from the oven and let them cool in the tin for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
- Dust with Powdered Sugar: If desired, dust the warm cruffins with powdered sugar before serving.
