Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute up to 1/4 with whole-wheat
  • 3/4 cup white whole wheat flour Can use all-purpose instead
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Coconut sugar optional substitute
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg Optional but recommended
  • 1/4 tsp allspice Optional
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter, cold & cubed Use vegan butter for dairy-free
  • 1/2 cup milk Dairy or plant-based
  • 1 egg Large
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chopped apple Firm varieties like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp

Glaze

  • 1 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk For glaze
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract For glaze

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, white whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
  • Add the cold cubed butter and cut it into the dry mix until it resembles coarse crumbs. In a separate bowl, whisk milk, egg, and vanilla; add to dry mixture and stir gently.
  • Fold in the chopped apples until evenly distributed without overmixing.
  • Scoop 2–3 tablespoon mounds of batter onto the baking sheet and gently flatten.
  • Bake 18–22 minutes until golden brown and set. Cool 5 minutes.
  • Whisk together confectioner's sugar, milk, and vanilla to form a smooth glaze. Drizzle over warm fritters and allow to set.

Notes

For stronger spice flavor, add an extra pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg. These fritters are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated lightly in the oven.
